Accomplices– Self Censorship BBC

Remarkably, a well researched piece on the London Tube Bombers has been rejected by the BBC as “Islamophobic”.  This self-censorship of a nationally owned and subsidized outlet suggests that the UK is unwilling to confront and publicize terror in its midst and in fact, is phobic, or fearful, of Islam.

Far in the distance, a protracted scream comes out of a dark tunnel. As it rises, the ground begins to shake. A dot of light speeds toward the viewer. In seconds, it fills the screen and a rattling blur of cold steel shrieks past the camera.

The action cuts to the forecourt of King’s Cross station. Hasib Hussein, a gawky 18-year-old with soft eyes, looks imploringly at the authoritative figure of Sidique Khan.

“…”There is nothing to fear in death, Hasib,” he says. “When the time comes, we’ll face toward Mecca together, as one.” He looks Hussein in the eyes. “Our lives begin today.” Hussein nods. Khan ruffles his hair and disappears to slaughter commuters on the London Underground. Hussein screws up his courage and prepares to murder an equally random collection of passengers on a bus heading out from King’s Cross.

So begins The London Bombers, one of the most thoroughly researched and politically important drama-documentaries commissioned by British television. A team of journalists, at least one of whom was a British Muslim, reported to Terry Cafolla, a writer who won many awards for his dramatization of the religious hatred which engulfed the Holy Cross School in Belfast. The reporters spent months in Beeston, the Leeds slum where three of the four 7/7 bombers – Sidique Khan, Hasib Hussein and Shehzad Tanweer – grew up. They didn’t find that the “root cause” of murderous rage was justifiable anger at the “humiliation” America, Israel, Britain and Denmark and her tactless cartoonists had inflicted on Muslims.

Accomplices– Random House

When our free, Western media, self-censors works of fiction because of fear of violent reaction by Islamo-fascists… they have already won.  Recently Random House decided not to publish a novel by a female author about Mohammed, allegedly for these reasons.  Note that other religions are regularly lambasted by artists and writers and fiction is just that, a made up story.

Last year Random House signed a $100,000, two-book deal with journalist Sherry Jones for The Jewel of Medina, a racy historical novel about Aisha, the young wife of the prophet Muhammad. Jones learned Arabic, studied scholarly works about Aisha’s life, and came to admire her protagonist as a woman of courage.
In May, Random House abruptly called off publication of the book, fearing it would become a new Satanic Verses, the Salman Rushdie novel of 1988 that led to death threats, riots and the murder of the book’s Japanese translator, among other horrors. After consulting security experts and Islam scholars, Thomas Perry, deputy publisher at Random House, said the company decided “to postpone publication for the safety of the author, employees of Random House, booksellers and anyone else who would be involved in distribution and sale of the novel.” (Wall Street Journal)

Accomplices–BBC funds terror “paintball”

Amazing news, the BBC is now paying for paintball for men now accused of being Islamo-fascist terrorists.

The BBC funded a paintballing trip for men later accused of Islamic terrorism and failed to pass on information about the 21/7 bombers to police, a court was told last month.
Mohammed Hamid is charged with overseeing a two-year radicalization program to prepare London-based Muslim youths for jihad.
The BBC paid for Hamid and fellow defendants Muhammad al-Figari and Mousa Brown to go on a paintballing trip at the Delta Force center in Tonbridge, Kent, in February 2005.
The men, accused of terrorism training, were filmed for a BBC program called “Don’t Panic, I’m Islamic,” screened in June 2005.

Recently the movie “Obsession” was to be screened at UF in Gainesville, Florida. Advertising for the movie included a flyer that read “Radical Islam Wants You Dead”. Campus administrators including Vice Pres for Student Affairs criticized these posters calling them hate speech. Apparently many posters were torn down by hooded individuals. A verbal brouhaha ensued with input from Florida Legislators and others. Finally, it appears that VP restated her terms and denied threatening disciplinary action or opposing free speech. Readers have sent me e-mails about a letter a top official at the University of Florida sent out this week chastising student Republicans for advertisements they posted for a movie titled: “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West.”

UF Vice President for Student Affairs Patricia Telles-Irvin was upset because the advertisement included the words “Radical Islam Wants You Dead!” The advertisements were taken out by the UF College Republicans and the UF Law School Republicans.

“I believe the groups that posted them owe the campus, and particularly campus members of the Islamic faith, an apology and a clarification,” Telles-Irvin wrote in a letter sent to the entire student body.

Telles Irvin’s letter brought a scathing response from Steven J. Willis, a UF professor of law and advisor to the Law School Republicans.

“You have violated our organization’s rights, as well as the right of its members,” Willis wrote to Telles-Irvin. ” ‘Radical Islam Wants You Dead’ is a constitutionally protected statement.” (more…)

Accomplices– Western Intellectuals

Excellent piece by Suzanne Fields at Real Clear Politics detailing how Western Intellectuals who see as morally equivalent Islamo-fascism and Western (take your pick) “capitalism, decadence, social inequality”.  But there is no equivalence and the naivete of these individuals is only exceeded by their foolishness. …The intellectual elites of the left, both here and in Britain and Europe, are resuscitating moral equivalence, this time promoting the idea that the values of the West are no better than the nostrums of the Islamists. Bernard Lewis, the distinguished scholar of the history of the Middle East, doesn’t like the terms “left” and “right,” but he applies them to Europeans of the left who encourage radical Muslims who spout anti-American slogans and the Europeans on the right who encourage Muslims who vow to destroy the Jews: “In Europe, their hatreds outweigh their loyalties.”

Bruce Bawer makes this point in his book, “While Europe Slept: How Radicalism Is Destroying the West from Within.” One of the most disgraceful developments of our time, he writes, “is that many Western intellectuals who pride themselves on being liberals have effectively aligned themselves with an outrageously illiberal movement that rejects equal rights for women, that believes gays and Jews should be executed, that supports the cold-blooded murder of one’s own children in the name of honor.” Young Europeans who wear Che Guevara T-shirts and Palestinian scarves, to identify with a “glamorous” revolution that exists only in their naive imaginations, are dangerously out of touch with the authentic peril in the world.

When his book was nominated for the prestigious National Book Critics Circle award, an angry author accused him of “Islamophobia.” Mr. Bawer does not suffer these fools. He draws parallels with Germany of the ’30s, observing that the European elites are experiencing “a Weimar moment,” a refusal to recognize the threat in their midst. Blaming America and Israel is more convenient. Safer, too. Neither Christian nor Jew is likely to go after them with a beheading knife….

Accomplices–Arabs Ignore Mass Slaughter of Muslims By Iraqi “Insurgents”

Thomas Friedman writes in the NY Times that nobody in the Arab world has the “guts” to speak out and say that the random killing in Iraq is WRONG! On a daily basis, co-religionists murder one another and it is blamed on Shia vs. Sunni or left-over from Saddam’s fascist state. However, I too find few condemnations at a basic moral level, of this killing. It’s justified in some quarters because it somehow is seen as opposing “occupation” or causing the Americans harm. Still, no condemnations of the barbaric nature of this daily slaughter of schoolchildren, policemen, and civilians by the “insurgents”.

Nobody in the Arab world ”has the guts to say that what is happening in Iraq is wrong – that killing school kids is wrong,” said Mamoun Fandy, director of the Middle East program at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. ”People somehow think that killing Iraqis is good because it will stick it to the Americans, so Arabs are undermining the American project in Iraq by killing themselves.” The world worries about highly enriched uranium, but ”the real danger is highly enriched Islam,” Fandy added. That is, ”highly enriched Sunnism” and ”highly enriched Shiism” that eats away at the Muslim state, the way Hizbullah is trying to do in Lebanon or the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt or al-Qaeda everywhere.
One result: there’s no legitimate, decent, accepted source of Arab-Muslim authority today, no center of gravity ”for people to anchor their souls in,” Fandy said. In this welter of confusion, the suicide bombers go uncondemned or subtly extolled. ”The battleground in the Arab world today is not in Palestine or Lebanon, but in the classrooms and newsrooms,” Fandy concluded. LONDON–The other day Ken Livingstone, the mayor of my hometown of London, organized a conference on Islam and the West. It was a carefully rigged affair in which handpicked speaker after handpicked speaker stood up and announced that the democracies were to blame for the tidal wave of murder sweeping the world. To provide a spurious air of balance, the organizers invited a few people who dissented from the line of the Muslim Brotherhood and its British allies. Agnès Poirier, a French feminist, was one of them, but she pulled out because although there were no special facilities for Christians, Hindus and Jews, Mr. Livingstone had provided separate prayer rooms for Muslim men and Muslim women.

She wanted to know: Does Ken Livingstone’s idea of multiculturalism acknowledge and condone segregation? It clearly does, but what made this vignette of ethnic politics in a European city worth noting is that commentators for the BBC and nearly every newspaper here describe Mr. Livingstone as one of the most left-wing politicians in British public life. Hardly any of them notice the weirdness of an apparent socialist pandering to a reactionary strain of Islam, pushing its arguments and accepting its dictates. (more…)

Is Multiculturalism Destroying British Society?

I had an opportunity to hear Melanie Phillips, UK Journalist and author of Londonistan, on a recent speaking tour. She made several cogent points:

1) multiculturalism, as practiced in Britain, is a revolutionary ideology, that calls for equal acceptance of all cultural expressions, including those repugnant to the host society. It is NOT about tolerance, which we all advocate, it is about the negation of moral distinctions and the extinction of the Judeo-Christian ethos.

2) multiculturalism doesn’t allow for criticism of bad behavior by the majority and assumes the minority is being oppressed and that the majority must accomodate the minority

3) multiculturalism is sapping Britain’s will to resist Radical Islam (the Islamo-fascists)

4) modern academic political theory classifies groups as victims or victimizers. Victims are people of color or minorities, including Muslims. Victimizers are powerful Western countries, majority populations, Europeans, and Israelis. Any act of aggression by victims (as classified above) automatically calls for an explanation of why the victimizer (as above) is wrong. Any response by the “victimizer” to stop said violent aggression is wrong, excessive, racist, and disproportionate

Hence, British society, and by extension the West and the US must move beyond these radical conceptions of the world to survive. She wants people to wake up, to look and listen, to understand, to overcome their ignorance as to cause and effect, and to fight the enemy. Who is the enemy? Radical Islam– not all Muslims– but those who advocate violent Jihad and those who wish to impose Sharia law on Western nations. Below you can access a detailed pamphlet written by Martin Bright, cited in an equally brilliant speech by Conservative MP Paul Goodman that discusses the manner of dealing with Islamists by the British Government. Mr. Goodman’s speech features the following quote from its conclusion:

George Orwell once wrote of the

    “deep, deep sleep of England, from which I sometimes fear that we shall never wake till we are jerked out of it by the roar of bombs.”

On 7/7, we heard the roar of bombs in London. I sometimes worry that the deep, deep sleep that Orwell described in the 1930s is still here in relation to Islamism in sections of the Government, parts of the political and media establishment, the House and the country. This is one of the most urgent problems facing us, and if we are in that deep, deep sleep, it is time for all of us to wake up.

The pamplet can be reviewed in its entirety. Again, one can hope this is the beginning of a serious re-evaluation of a failed British policy to try to “co-opt” locally grown radicals and attempting to reach accomodations with Islamo-fascists–even as local arrests and terror attempts expand.
